Bergen County prosecutors recently announced the arrests of seven alleged
members of the Bloods street gang accused of kidnapping and assaulting
a former gang member.
The county prosecutor said detectives had conducted a month-long investigation
into an alleged kidnapping in North Arlington early last month.
When police arrived on the scene, they found a pick-up truck with smashed
windows and a woman there who said people in two autos had beaten her
boyfriend and taken him away in one of their cars.
She described the vehicle as a burgundy Acura and was able to give officers
part of its license plate number.
Police found a burgundy Acura with a matching plate later that day and
took a man and his girlfriend into custody for questioning. They were
also charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault.
Later that day, police said they identified the other vehicle and its occupants.
This time, they took a Garfield man and woman into custody and charged
them with kidnapping and assault as well.
By two in the afternoon, police said they'd found the kidnapping victim
in Passaic. The man claimed he was a former member of the Sex Money Murder
part of the Bloods, but had been trying to leave the gang.
He said he was kidnapped by seven Bloods at knifepoint, beaten, formerly
expelled from the gang, beaten again and then released in Passaic.
Three suspects were taken into custody over the next days, with one arrested
on July 5, another on July 20 and the last just a few days ago. All were
charged as the ones before were charged. All were being held in Bergen
County Jail on $275,000 bail.
