A Teaneck man is in custody on
drug trafficking charges and his neighbor is wanted by police on suspicions of weapons
offenses, Bergen County law enforcement officials said yesterday.
The 28-year-old man in Bergen County Jail in Hackensack faces allegations
that he was distributing cocaine and marijuana.
He remains in jail in lieu of posting a $50,000 bond, according to a media report.
His neighbor, 31 years old, has arrest warrants out in his name, charging
him with violating state gun laws. His bail will be set at $100,000, officials said.
The men became the focus of an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's
Office earlier this month after the office received information that the
pair was dealing drugs, officials said.
The county prosecutor's office said undercover police officers purchased
crack cocaine and marijuana from both of the men.
Agents from the prosecutor's office then joined Teaneck police officers
in the investigation of the 28-year-old, who was apparently a suspect
in a Teaneck shooting this past weekend.
In that incident, he allegedly fired a shot into an automobile, though
police say they don't know if anyone was in the vehicle or anyone
After the shooting, a bullet fragment was found and examined, and officials
then obtained a search warrant for the homes of the two men.
At the home of the 28-year-old, officials said they found handgun ammunition.
At the home of the other man, 31, police said they found and seized marijuana,
drug paraphernalia, a sawed-off shotgun, a 9mm semiautomatic handgun and
a .25 caliber handgun, along with ammunition.
