One man is accused of coming to Bergen County with the intention of having sex with a six-year-old girl. Another man is accused of arranging the encounter that never took place.
Both men are now in custody, charged with sex crimes.
The Cliffview Pilot reports that one of the two men is 51 years old. He drove two hours for the encounter, up from Ocean County. He lives there in Ship Bottom, an ocean-side borough on Long Beach Island.
He's currently facing a charge of attempted aggravated sexual assault, as well as child endangerment. He's being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
The other man is 28 years old and unmarried. He lives in Brick Township, also in Ocean County, on the Barnegat Peninsula. He's being held on $25,000 bail for distributing child pornography.
According to the Cliffview Pilot, a law enforcement Internet crime detective found the 28-year-old man online distributing child pornography. The alleged offender was induced to introduce police to the 51-year-old with whom he had made arrangements for the sexual encounter.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli, the 28-year-old arranged for the older man "to travel to Bergen County for the purpose of having sexual intercourse with a six-year-old female."
The prosecutor said a number of local police departments aided in the investigation conducted by the Computer Crimes Task Force:
- Saddle River Police Department
- River Vale Police Department
- Ramsey Police Department
- Montvale Police Department
- Lyndhurst Police Department
The two men had court appearances scheduled in Hackensack at the county courthouse.
