Corrections officer arrested in connection with North Bergen robbery

Six people have been arrested in connection with the robbery of a North Bergen card game this past summer, including a New Jersey state corrections officer.

Four men in the case have been charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses, as well as criminal restraint and conspiracy to commit robbery. It wasn't clear from the media reports what exactly the prison guard has been charged with, though she is reportedly being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

The July robbery reportedly took place during a card game held in a garage on 79th Street, where 10 people were playing. A reported $5,000 was taken from the players.

The six people accused of taking part in the robbery are also accused of organizing, targeting and planning Hudson County home invasions.

The 39-year-old prison guard works at Cumberland County's Bayside State Prison, where she has been suspended without pay from her $80,400 job. She's been working for the state's corrections department for nearly 14 years.

Two reputed members of the Bloods street gang, 32 and 31 years old, were arrested last month in the case. The 31-year-old has been labeled by prosecutors as the "ringleader" of the group.

Two West New York men were also arrested, as was a Guttenberg man, 24, who was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.

Law enforcement authorities say they recovered an item allegedly taken during the card game robbery; that item led them to arrest the prison guard.

Everyone charged in this case faces the possibility of serving time behind bars if they're convicted. Obviously, the prison guard faces the loss of her career of more than a decade as well.
