Son of Bergen County politician is arrested for marijuana charges

Some people do not realize that anyone can be charged with a crime. While it seems like underprivileged individuals are accused of crimes more often than the privileged, anyone can face criminal allegations. It does not matter if you are a teacher, lawyer or doctor. However, what if you were the son of a well-known politician? In this case, the philosophy still holds true.

In recent news, the son of Bergen County Executive Kathleen Donovan was arrested on drug charges Thursday. According to reports, the 20-year-old man is accused of smoking marijuana with two underage girls inside the home of his parent.

Authorities have arrested the man for possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. Furthermore, he faces charges for being under the influence of drugs.

As one can see, it does not matter how high your family may be on the social ladder--anyone can be convicted of a crime. If the son of the politician is found guilty, you can bet that this incident will probably affect not only the suspect, but his mother's career.

Every type of person can get tangled up in criminal law; however, every type of person also deserves a proper criminal defense. Every defendant has very specific rights. If authorities do not uphold or protect those rights in the process of an arrest, a court may throw out any unlawfully obtained evidence that suggests guilt. Therefore, as the son of this politician approaches his charges, he will need to ensure that he has adequate knowledge of his criminal privileges.
