A Garfield teenager, 19, is being accused by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office of sexual assault in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child in the third degree.
He's accused of having sexual contact with a female acquaintance, 14.
The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit and Garfield police officers arrested the 19-year-old after being told by the girl's mother that the two had engaged in sexual contact.
Bail was set at $100,000 and the 19-year-old was taken to Bergen County Jail in lieu of posting that amount.
In an unrelated incident, a Kearny was recently arrested on a charge of attempted sexual assault and child endangerment by Passaic County sheriff's deputies.
The man, 30, is accused of engaging in online communications with undercover police officers who posed as a 12-year-old girl.
The man is accused of exposing himself by using a webcam, and on two occasions masturbating on-camera.
He was also charged with attempted lewdness in the presence of a minor, officials said.
He was arrested when sheriff's deputies arrived at his home on a recent morning and took him into custody without incident, a spokesperson said.
The suspect is apparently a citizen of India, in the United States on a student visa to study at Rutgers University in Newark. He reportedly also works at the university as a researcher.
Bail was set at $150,000.
