Man arrested on weapons charges in Bergen County

Far from home, a 34-year-old man was arrested and booked into Bergen County Jail on charges of illegally selling guns in New Jersey and New York.

The Lewisville, Texas, man is accused of arranging to sell six firearms to an undercover detective in Edgewater. The man was reportedly to receive $7,200 for the guns.

The Bergen County Narcotics Task Force later pulled him over near the Edgewater location where the alleged gun transaction was to take place.

In his vehicle and Jersey City residence, officers said they found six unregistered firearms.

He now faces the following charges: unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose and unlawfully transporting firearms.

In an unrelated incident, two Hackensack teenagers were arrested on suspicions of robbery, possession of a a handgun for unlawful purposes, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a handgun, law enforcement official said.

The teens, ages 19 and 16, were arrested after they alleged robbed a man of $90 and a smartphone at gunpoint in North Bergen last week.

Police said the alleged robbery victim sells phones on the internet and had previously sold a phone to the 19-year-old.

The teen reportedly contacted the man to buy another phone and arranged another purchase. The two teens, accompanied by a third man, met the alleged victim, showed him a gun and told him to give them his money and phone.

They then reportedly fled the scene in the 19-year-old's van.
