The estranged husband of a woman who was romantically involved with a New Jersey man has been arrested on suspicion of homicide, Bergen County law enforcement officials said.
A Teaneck man was shot and his home was set on fire in March of 2011. Now a 49-year-old New York man has been arrested and charged with killing his wife's boyfriend.
The resident of Manhattan allegedly began "stalking" the 59-year-old Teaneck man after learning in 2010 of his wife's affair.
The New Yorker and his wife were estranged and in the process of divorce at the time of the Teaneck man's killing, prosecutors said.
The Bergen County Prosecutor says the two men had a confrontation in March of last year at the boyfriend's home, during which he was shot. He apparently died from the bullet wounds.
The software engineer's house was then allegedly set on fire by the husband.
The husband's bail has been set at $3 million by a Bergen County Superior Court judge. The husband is currently being held by New York City officials pending extradition.
He's facing a number of charges, including a pair of charges in the first degree: murder and felony murder. He also faces several charges in the second degree: aggravated arson, desecration of human remains, armed burglary, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a handgun.
In addition, he's charged with stalking, hindering apprehension and tampering with evidence.
The prosecutor's office says its investigation into the case is ongoing.
