Maywood man third to be arrested in drug-dealing case

Maywood police yesterday arrested a third person allegedly involved in a drug-trafficking operation reportedly run from a house across the street from city police headquarters.

The 37-year-old man arrested Tuesday lives in the two-family house. Two others were arrested earlier in the month.

He now faces drug- and weapons-related charges, law enforcement officials said. He's in custody in Bergen County Jail in Hackensack; bail was set at $210,000.

Charges against him include possession with intent to distribute marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, ecstasy and LSD. In addition, he was charged with possession of drugs with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a park, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point bullets and money laundering.

Law enforcement officials say they began surveillance of the house after learning that tenants might have been selling drugs there.

Officers then arrested a Swan Lake, New York, man as he left the house. Police said they found more than a pound of marijuana in his possession.

He faces a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Police said the man arrested Tuesday was returning to the house at the time of the arrest of the 29-year-old, saw police at the residence and drove off.

Law enforcement officials said when they executed a search warrant for the second-story apartment, they recovered narcotics, $7,000 in cash and a .357 caliber handgun and hollow-point ammunition from the residence.

Drugs seized included crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, ecstasy and other substances yet to be identified, officials said.

A 23-year-old man who also lives in the house was charged with distribution of drugs and drug possession.
