Palisades Park man accused of attempted sexual assault at motel

Bergen County law enforcement officials say they've arrested a Palisades Park man on suspicions that he attempted to sexually assault an acquaintance at a motel.

The man, 39 years old, is accused by a woman, 21, of trying to sexually assault her at the Congress Inn Motel on Route 46.

The woman told law enforcement officials that she ran out of the room and that hotel guests held the man until police arrived.

He was charged with second-degree attempted sexual assault and was taken to the Bergen County Jail. Bail was set at $200,000 was no 10 percent cash option, officials said.

He was also ordered not to contact the woman.

In an unrelated matter, an Essex County teacher, 33 years old, is being accused of first- and second-degree aggravated sexual assault.

She's charged with carrying on a three-month sexual relationship with a student, 15 years old.

The teacher was named a "New Jersey Teacher of the Year" for the 2011-2012 school year.

The Montclair woman now faces serious accusations, including first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Law enforcement officials say the educator was the male student's honors English teacher.

The relationship reportedly began in June, just before the end of the school year, and ended just days ago, prosecutors allege.

The teacher also serves as the West Orange school's junior varsity tennis coach.
