Man charged with drug possession after trying to help friend

On Aug. 13, a 27-year-old New Jersey man was charged with possession of several drugs. According to the report, authorities stated that the man was attempting to get his friend out of trouble for possession of marijuana by telling the police that the marijuana belonged to him.

The authorities reportedly were called to a location on the 400 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Trenton after they were given a tip that a narcotics transaction was taking place. When they arrived at approximately 7:30 p.m., they stated that they found a 28-year-old man at the location smoking marijuana. They took him into custody.

The accused 27-year-old man reportedly saw the authorities taking his friend into custody. The police alleged that the man told them that the marijuana that the other man had been smoking was his. Officers then took this man into custody. After they searched him, they reportedly seized 1 gram of crack cocaine from his person. He was ultimately charged with possession of crack, possession with intent to distribute and distribution of an illegal substance within 1,000 feet of a school and 500 feet of a park. The 28-year-old man was charged with minor possession of marijuana.
