After incident, teen facing serious drunk driving charges

Young people make mistakes. This fact is a part of common knowledge and has been supported by multiple studies that prove that a young person's brain is not fully developed until one is well into their 20s. While most of the mistakes that a teenager will make are of little consequence, there are certain errors that can lead to serious and lasting ramifications. Such is the case for a young man in New Jersey who is facing seriousdrunk driving charges after an auto accident.

The incident took place on a recent Saturday morning, when an 18-year-old man crashed his Ford Explorer into a utility pole. The teen was not injured in the accident, but damage done to the transformers led to widespread power outages in the area. Utility crews were dispatched to the scene and repairs were completed shortly afterward.

When police arrived at the scene, they arrested the driver under suspicion of driving while impaired. No details were given as to what evidence was collected to support that accusation. He was also charged with reckless driving.

As the New Jersey teen moves closer to his day in court, he has a serious legal matter to address. A drunk driving conviction could lead to a wide range of negative outcomes, including fines, the suspension of his driving privileges and even time behind bars. While drinking and driving is a very serious matter and should never be taken lightly, it is hoped that the court will consider the fact that many young people go through a period of poor decision-making, and that this incident could be viewed as an opportunity for this young man to learn from his mistakes and make an effort to behave more responsibly in the future.
