Two more New Jersey men charged in weapons offense case involving purchase of Air Jordan shoes

Two additional men from Jersey City, New Jersey were recently charged in a weapons offense case involving the purchase of a pair of Nike Air Jordan shoes for Christmas. The alleged weapons crime occurred at the Newport Centre Mall on December 22 and allegedly involved at least three 19-year-old men.

A few days before Christmas, a 20-year-old shopper was stabbed multiple times while waiting in line to a buy a new pair of Nike Air Jordan sneakers at the Newport Centre Mall. According to the 20-year-old, he was in line to buy the shoes at a Foot Locker when he got into a fight with another man. Soon after four to six other men joined the fight according to the police report.

The man was stabbed multiple times with a knife and was found by police sitting outside the mall. The 20-year-old man did not receive any life threatening wounds.

So far three 19-year-old men who were allegedly involved in the incident have been charged with weapons offenses, aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault. Video from a mall security camera helped identify two of the alleged defendants. Frames from the security camera video were published in The Jersey Journal in order to gather further information.

At a court hearing yesterday, one of the men attempted to defend himself by explaining a weapon was not visible in the video recording of the incident. The man's public defender advised him to exercise his right to remain silent.
